Driving Near Railroad Crossings

Even though it’s a few months away until National Rail Safety in September, last week’s truck-train collision in Utah has shaken up drivers enough to take an extra look every time they cross the tracks in their truck.

Due to extreme cold weather, the gates in front of the tracks didn’t come down when a train was incoming. The Fedex semi’s cab had just made it over the tracks before the Frontrunner tore the trailer in half. If it had been the driver of a pickup rental, it’s hard to imagine that he would have been able to walk away from the incident.

Before you head out near any rail crossings, take the time to get familiar with the driving safety tips that you’ve sheltered in the corner of your mind.
