When Renting, Why Does the Weight of Your Truck Matter?

Whatever you are pulling or moving, make sure you have the right truck for the job. The greater the weight of the load you intend on moving, the bigger the truck you need. Be sure to know the weight of the load when you decide to rent a work truck.

The following are all types of pickups you could rent. Be sure to choose your truck based on the size of the load you anticipate on carrying.

1/2 Ton Truck

The 1/2 ton pickup is the most common truck on the road. They are used for more “daily driving” tasks. It is seen as the all purpose vehicle. With a 1/2 ton truck rental you can pull smaller things like medium size boats, four wheelers or light trailers.

They can tow between 3,000 and 10,000 pounds with a truck bed payload up to 3,000 pounds. These trucks are great for people who need a rental for light uses only.

3/4 Ton Truck
This is a great in between truck. Three quarter trucks can tow up to 13,000 pounds. The 3/4 ton pickup can hold up to 4,000 pounds in the truck bed. That being said it can handle little heavier loads than the 1/2 ton pickup. This is due to their stronger suspension. To put this into perspective, imagine hauling a mid-size camper.

1 Ton Truck

One ton trucks are the beefiest of the trucks. They can handle towing up to 30,000 pounds. In the truck bed alone, they can carry 6,000 pounds. These are the trucks you see hauling horse trailers and trailers with large equipment on them. One ton trucks are the trucks that get the job done.

Make sure that when you rent a truck you know exactly what you need to haul. Choosing the weight of the truck is solely based on the size of load you intend on carrying.
